Lords of the Earth

An amazing story of the lives of several faithful missionaries as they sought to reach the Yali tribe with the gospel of Jesus Christ in the remote mountainous jungles of Irian Jaya.

“Engulfed in the darkness of Irian Jaya’s Snow Mountains live the Yali—naked cannibals who call themselves ‘lords of the earth.’ Yet in terror and bondage they serve women-hating, child-despising gods. Missionary Stan Dale dared to enter their domain.
LORDS OF THE EARTH is the story of Dale, his wife, his companions, and thousands of Yali tribesmen—all swept together in a maelstrom of agony and blood that climaxes in a dramatic, unexpected ending.” [Back cover]

INTRODUCTION
The Yali. Cannibals with a difference. Masters of jungle warfare who keep shooting until arrows stand in their victim’s bodies “as thick as reeds in a swamp”… . They called themselves “men of power … lords of the earth.” For in their remote mountain-walled valleys no one challenged their sway. In league with the kembu spirits, Yali males bowed to no one and needed nothing.
Or did they?
Rawhide-tough missionary-commando Stan Dale and gentle Dutch-Canadian Bruno de Leeuw believed that the Yali needed the gospel of Jesus of Nazareth. Buoyant with faith, Stan and Bruno entered the Heluk Valley, and were joined later by Stan’s wife Pat and her four children. Little did Stan or Bruno dream how complex their mission really was.
